Beautiful In The Morning

Updated: 1 day ago

I am pleased to announce that my song Beautiful In The Morning has been released. To listen to the song free of charge or purchase in MP3 and FLAC formats, please go to my Downloads page.

The song is from my forthcoming album Essence, where it occupies the forth track position. It is a song of deep love as the singer watches his partner wake up early one morning. A male lead sings the verses and chorus with a brief female backing vocal. I know music genres are somewhat subjective but I like to think of this track as loosely falling into the Quiet Storm / Lovers Rock / Smooth Jazz categories.

The song was entirely created in the digital domain using VSTi instruments, including acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano, flute and drum kit. I mostly write gentle, late-night mid tempo songs that don't get in the way of the lyrics too much.

The vocals were created using VSTi voice software, something that is not as straight forward as it might seem. Although, sadly, I don't possess an adequate enough voice to sing my lyrics onto recorded songs, I've none-the-less learned about singing techniques so that I can begin to understand such things as expression, dynamics, voice colour etc. It amuses me that while I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to bring the VSTi voice software to sound like something approaching a human voice, there are major artists out there that spend just as much time heavily processing their singing voices until they sound robotic! Perhaps we'll all meet in the middle someday.

The lyrics to Beautiful In The Morning were inspired by my memories of a particularly tender moment in an early love affair that I will never forget. They are written in the first person present tense which I believe has helped me strengthen the personal nature of the emotions in the song. I hope you enjoy it.
