I'm pleased to announce that my song A Quiet Guy has been released. To listen to the song please go to my Music page.
I thought I'd try something a little different from the love songs that I normally write. This track serves as a brief introduction to myself and describes the style and genre of music that I create. The lyrics are personal to me, they reflect on a life peppered with pain, mitigated by the discovery of songwriting and the beautiful therapy that making music can be.
At the age of nine I was diagnosed with kidney nephritis, a condition that, amongst other things, causes the kidney to expel necessary proteins and other elements from the body. If left untreated the likely outcome is death. Back then, after several blood transfusions, six months in hospital and a further twelve months in convalescence (thank-you to the Red Cross children's home, Capesthorne) I survived. But there was no other coarse of action other than to be on steroids for a protracted period. They have softened my bones and now, as an adult, I suffer from spinal stenosis sped up by my childhood treatments. But hey, I'm alive and I'm enjoying making my kind of music immensely.
For this track I used three different bass guitars playing the same notes in harmony to create the rich rhythm track. Other instruments used were piano, violins, glockenspiel, snare and hand drums. As usual for me the song was created using Virtual Studio Technology and VSTi instruments. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the song.
